Confederate officer's letter, 2pp. 4to., written by 1st Lt. Abner Newton Steele, [KIA Glendale, Va., June 30, 1862], Co. G [North Port Rifles], 11th Alabama Infantry, "Camps near Cub Run, Va., Nov. 7, 1861," to his wife Eleanor Caroline (Thompson) Steele (1825-1906), in part: "…we are camped one mile from Centreville [and] six miles from Manassas on the turnpike road where the Yankees made their double quick retreat from Bull Run…most of us have given up all hopes of a fight here this winter…some of the officers here begin to think peace will be made soon and we will get a chance to go home…our North Port boys are all well…Newt." Also included is the archival repaired original transmittal cover with "Tudor Hall, Va. DUE 10" post marks franked: "A. N. Steele 1st Lt. Co. G, 11th Regt. Ala. Vol." Overall VG.
