WOLCOTT, OLIVER Jr. (1760-1833). Secretary of the Treasury under Washington and Adams; Governor of Connecticut. Son of a Signer of the Declaration of Independence, Oliver Jr. served the treasury Department faithfully and superbly under Alexander Hamilton, and was instrumental in developing a plan for the establishment of branches of the Bank of the United States (founded 1791).Document Signed, “Oliv Wolcott”, 1 page. 8” x 10”. August 24, 1795. To William Ellery, Collector at Newport. “…I have this day directed the Treasure of the United States to remit to you the sum of One Thousand Dollars in two draughts for five hundred dollars each on the Bank of Providence. The monies arising from these draughts are to be paid over by you to the Agent of Fortifications agreeably to former instructions and regulations…” Signed by Wolcott as Secretary of the Treasury. Scotch tape repairs bleed through and are visible from the front.
