A great collection of five (5) mid-19th century wood cut engravings relative to the capture and death of Revolutionary War British spy Major John Andre who was ordered to be put to death by orders of the Continental Army after he was captured while carrying dispatches from General Benedict Arnold relative to the surrender of West Point to British forces. He was hanged as a spy on October, 2, 1780. Included is a, 5" x 8" bust portrait of Andre with facsimile signature engraved by W. G. Jackman; a slightly small bust portrait of Benedict Arnold; an approximate 6" x 9 1/4" engraving by A. B. Walter of the "Capture of Major Andre," 8 1/4" x 10 5/16" engraving of a painting by A. Chappel, entitled: "The Death Warrant of Major Andre," published by Martin & Johnson, NYC, 1855 and finally, an 8 1/4x 11" scene of the "Last Moments of Major Andre" after a painting by M. A. Wageman. Overall expected wear, else VG. (5 pieces)
