June 11, 1862-Dated Civil War Historic Content, Autograph Document Signed, “S. D. Sturgis”, 1 page, 8” x 9.5”, Head Quarters Reserve Army Corps, Washington, Choice Very Fine. Written to Wm. C. Rawolle, A.D.C. &c Ass't Insp Gen'l.. his original Manuscript Document reads, in full: General Orders No. 1: “I. Pursuant to instructions from the War Department, the undersigned hereby assumes command of all the forces in and about the city of Washington, except such as may be required by Brig. Gen'l Wadsworth for purposes set forth in instructions referred to . “II. Such of these troops as are north of the Potomac will hold themselves in readiness to move at a moments warning. “III. Until further orders, General Head Quarters will be as at present; Cor 19 & I streets. “S. D. Sturgis, Brig. Gen’l. U.S. Vols.” Paper shows normal folds and mounting remnants on verso, in nice condition. Important content. Extremely rare.
