War-date Union soldier Autograph Letter Signed “Peter H. Light” 3rd Pennsylvania Artillery, 4pp. octavo, Camp Rank, January 3, 1864, and reads in part: “...Our captain and 1st Lieutenant are about the same as they used to be, if not worse. We have not heard anything for a long time any more about Runkle’s Nigger Battery; I think it ‘dried up.’...Thomas J.R. Rapp was killed and Abraham Shantz and John Shaulk were hurt...” Fine condition.Benjamin Piatt Runkle (September 3, 1836 – June 28, 1916) was one of the seven founders of Sigma Chi fraternity and an officer in the Union Army during the American Civil War. He served as Chief Superintendent of Freedmen's Affairs in Kentucky
