A rare Medal of Honor Civil War officer's letter, 1p. 8vo., written by 1st Lieut. Frank W. Haskell 19th Maine Vols. (1843-1903) MOHW for action at Seven Pines, Va., June 1, 1862. Took command of the left wing of the 19th Maine and led it in a charge across a stream, "Hd. Qrs. Brigade, [Brandy Station, Va.], Feb. 25, 1864," to "Miss Sara A. Chandler, Waterville, Maine," concerning his impending discharge, reading, in part: "…Col. [Selden] Connor came tonight and assures me that if my discharge comes I shall be re-appointed as Adjt. He takes command of the Brig. & I am to remain as asst. Adjt. Genl. Don't let talk worry you-it will be alright. I got a letter from Col. [Francis] Health…it was splendid also a very good one from Sen. Milliken…Ever yours, Frank." The original stamped transmittal cover is included. Both near fine.
