SYMMES, John Cleves (1742-1814) was a delegate to the Continental Congress from New Jersey, and later a pioneer in the Northwest Territory. He was also the father-in-law of President William Henry Harrison. He was chairman of the Sussex County, New Jersey Committee of Safety in 1774. When the Revolutionary war began in earnest, he served as Colonel of the 3rd Regiment of the Sussex County militia.Clipped from a document "John Cleves Symmes", 3-1/2" x 1-1/4", dark signature beneath Isaac Smith.TIFFIN, Edward (1766-1829) was an American politician from Ohio. Tiffin became the first doctor in Chillicothe, traveling on horseback, day and night, to treat the afflicted.
