A Confederate soldier's 3pp. letter written by Albert M. White to his father. White mustered into "C" Co. NC 4th Infantry, was wounded 7/3/1863 Gettysburg, PA., and surrendered on 4/9/1865 at Appomattox Court House, VA. Datelined Richmond, June 18, 1862 (from the hospital). In part "I am on the mend ... The doctor said it does not pain me any, only where it was cut near my back bone. I suppose it must have hit my hip bone ... At the present I would like tell you who all was killed and wounded, but I have not seen any of the Company since I came here. Only them that was wounded and there is none you know. ... There's eight of our company killed in the field. ... Our first lieutenant White was one of them. He was killed in the field. ... The number wounded in our Company was 48, 8 killed. ... Well there are lots of wounded folks that are gone home on furlogh ... I can go in about two weeks ..."
