A very rare complete and original first edition Confederate regimental history, entitled: "Sketch of Page's Battery or Morris Artillery, 2d, Army Northern Virginia by One of the Company ." Authored by former battery commander, Capt. Richard Channing Manning Page, paper wraps, 4 1/2" x 7 1/4", 82pp., published by Thomas Smeltzer, New York City, 1885. Morris Light Artillery also known as the Louisa Battery served in the Army of Northern Virginia after organizing in August, 1861. It fought with General Ewell's command under Lee from the Seven Days Campaign to Cold Harbor. At Gettysburg, as part of Braxton's Battalion, the battery lost thirty-one percent of the 114 men engaged including Captain Page who was wounded during the First Days fight.. They served throughout the 1864 Shenandoah campaign with Ewell and were still detached from Lee during Appomattox although several members of the command surrendered there. The history is mostly a detailed roster of the 194 men who served with the unit throughout the war. Discovered among a collection of original Civil War era Virginia related documents and letters with several pages or partial pages missing. Considered worthy of restoration the consignor had the missing pages (title page and 81 and 82) of this rare edition professionally restored while there is minor restoration to pages 73-80. Expected wear, else VG .
