A finely illustrated Union soldier's (partial) letter, 2pp. 4to., written by an unknown soldier, "Camp Morewood, July 18, 1862", to his mother with a finely engraved view of New Orleans as it appeared during the Civil War. He gives a brief description of the scene, reading, in small part: " - there was a report one night - that the Rebels had drove in our pickets above the city so every man was examined and furnished with the required '40 rounds' of ammunition - on this sheet you will find a picture of greater part of the city of New Orleans. That large building near the centre with a dome is St. Charles Hotel. Annunciation Square is away toward the left corner. That long street with trees on the left side is Canal Street, the business street. At the foot near the river is the Custom House-".
