A very rare War Department price schedule broadside, 23" x 18", Washington, January 1, 1863, signed in type by Adjutant General Lorenzo Thomas, entitled: "The Following is the Official Price List of clothing, & etc." This document not only contains a complete and detailed list of the cost of clothing the American Civil War soldier, but also the cost of arming him as well. Categories include, "Price of Sharps Rifle and Carbine-Merrill Rifles and Carbines" plus the cost of sword and revolver parts. Examples of clothing prices include the cost of a Hardee hat at $1.68; feather .15 cents; castle insignia .10 cents while a forage cap costs .56 cents. In the military arms category the aggregated cost for a Sharps rifle costs $36.08 while the Merrill rifle costs $40.00. The cost for carbines ran between $29.00 for a Smith to $30.00 for a Burnside. Revolvers ran from $16.00 for a Remington to $25.00 for both a Colt or Starr. A must have document for a Civil War equipment collector! Much more fascinating and interesting content. Negligible fold splits, else VG
