A large Soldier's "Easel Monument" Memorial, measuring, 22 1/2" x 31 1/2" for the Stephy brothers of Maryland who both died during the Civil War and dedicated to their memory by the grieving sister, Rebecca Bell on March 15,1896. Pvt. William G. Stephy enlisted on August 24, 1861 into Company B, ("Cole's") 1st Maryland Home Brigade Cavalry. He participated numerous battle including the bloody battle of Antietam before he was captured in June, 1863. He died as a POW. John David Stephy, enlisted in August, 1862 into Co. B, 7th Maryland Volunteers and was killed in battle at the Wilderness on May 6, 1864. Publisher anonymous, printed in striking chocolate ink with fancy south paw style slanted black ink. Housed in the original slightly larger period frame, but not examined out of the frame. Overall VG to fine.
