TIMOTHY PICKERING (1745-1829). Soldier; Administrator; Politician. A man of formidable administrational ability, Pickering held increasingly important posts during and after the Revolutionary War: adjutant-general and quartermaster-general of the Revolutionary Army, and, successively, Washington's Postmaster General, Secretary of War and Secretary of State. Returning to private life about 1800, he held various elective offices such as U.S. Representative and Senator intermittently until his death. M. Carleton. Mass. Lt. In the American Revolution. ADS. 1p. obl. 4to, March 11,1783. Receipt made out in the names of T. Pickering and D. Wolfe for "Forty four dollars & Seventy two ninetieths in full for forage rations…" Some light tape repair.
