A great postwar newspaper advertisement printed, 1p. 8vo, reading, in part: "The Baltimore Telegram! read 'Doings of Maryland Boys in Gray!' Personal Experiences of the SOUTHERN HEROES OF MARYLAND.' This great series of papers has been prepared expressly for The Telegram by S. Z. Ammen, esq., with the co-operation of Gen. Bradley T. Johnson, Gen. James R. Herbert, Col. William P. Zollinger and others. The articles will run for about a year - E. Harmer, Winchester, Va., sole agent."Penciled on the verso is the poem reading, in part: "Confederate Memorial Day in Winchester, [Virginia].'There is a voice from the tomb sweeter than song. There is a remembrance of the dead to which we turn even from the charm of the living.' Thus wrote Washington Irving in his mournfully- tribute to the dead which makes us pause - lest we mar its pathos and beauty with rough words- but we mourn our dead and will do them reference with tombs and monuments, with song and with bright flowers bedeck their graves…".
