Union Soldier's Letter, 4pp., signed only by "James" 2nd Maryland Vols. ink written on patriotic "Flag of the Free. 1776 - 1862. Where Liberty Dwells, There is My Home." Date line, Headquarters 2ndMd Regt. Co. E, Feb 10th, 1862. In part, "I have just heard that we are ordered on an expedition against the traitors. I hope it may be so. .. We are under very strict discipline and it is a good thing for men. ... Say to Cousin Sally Shields that the portrait of General Washington which she promised me at her death, I wish her to bequeath to my dear little child should I never return. ..."
