Union soldier's letter by Pvt. Charles A. Macy, Jr., who enlisted on 5/25/1862 at New York City, NY as a private into K" Co. NY 7th Inf Nat'l Guard and was mustered out on 9/5/1862 at New York, NY. The four page letter comes with original cover, both from Coleman' Eutaw House letter sheet, Baltimore Aug. 27, 1862. In part, "We are to have a review this afternoon by Gen. Wool. ... Our boys came back from Mount Claire being relieved by the 7th Co. ... When in the city, we met Col. Bell who mustered us in service who says we cannot be drafted for nine months ..."
