Union soldier's letter written by Ellis Strouss who enlisted on 11/1/1861 as a private into "K" Co. PA 57th Infantry and was Mustered Out on 6/29/1865 at Alexandria, Va. Strouss was wounded 6/30/1862 Charles City Cross Roads, V. and again 5/5/1864 Wilderness, VA. The 4pp. letter written to his Mother is datelined Nov. 26th, 182, Camp of 57th Regt. Pa Vols, Near Fredericksburg. In part, "You ask me what I think of General Burnside. I think he will make a good General if he has his own way, and so would General McClellan, but I think that he will soon have as many political enemies as General McClellan. What Burnside has done, he has done well. ... I believe Old Abe Lincoln is an honest man and that he is doing all in his power to end this war honorably. ... McClellan must have had some faults, or Lincoln would not have removed him. ... This grand division is commanded by General Hooker ... Our division was reviewed yesterday by General Hooker. ..."
