Union soldier's letter by Charles C. Romer who enlisted on 9/3/1861 at Lockport, NY as a Private into "G" Co. NY 7th Cavalry and mustered out on 3/31/1862 at Washington, DC. Written regimental letterhead, 8th Regiment N.Y. Artillery, Fort Federal Hill, Baltimore, March 10th, 1863, 2pp. to Captain, in part, "We all hope you will have success in getting recruits and we all hope that you will not be kept from the Company for long. I think you can get the Porter boys. They live on Hess Road. I think that George Curtis comes ..Se if Be Laughlin will come ... I will write them and try to persuade them ..."
