Union soldier's letter by Sgt. Egbert B. Buzley, who enlisted on 8/14/1862 at Norristown, PA as a Corporal, into "A" Co. PA 138th Infantry , and mustered out on 6/23/1865 at Washington, D. The four page letter, datelined Relay Barracks, Md., Sunday, May 31st, 1863. Writing to his mother in part, "The other dasy I won a picture .. represents two soldiers boxing with their seconds behind them and three spectators. We got paid for two months ($26), will send $10 with this letter. ... Everything good is brought into the camp to get the poor soldier's money. There is a sutler's stand in full blast now. The strongest drink he can sell is porter. ... We have a dress parade in the morning ..."
