Salmon Portland Chase (1808-1873) was an American politician and jurist who served as the sixth chief justice of the United States. After Lincoln won the election, he asked Chase to serve as Secretary of the Treasury. Chase served in that position from 1861 to 1864 when he served as Chief Justice from 1864 to his death in 1873.Clipped from a letter, Respectfully "S.P Chase" Secretary of the Treaury, affixed to an album page with pasted down cover "Pass to Arlington Heights, June 28, 1864. ..plus, the actual partially printed pass, 5-1/2" x 3-1/2", issued June 25, 1864 to "C.S. Minor & wife & children ... with conveyance and Driver ... Alexander Ferry ... Reason Business, expires July 10th 1864. On the reverse, Minor, his wife and two children sign the OATH OF ALLEGIANCE".
