Union deserter's reward announcement, manuscript document issued by Capt. John P. Rutherford, Co. E, 7th Maryland. Datelined AQM Office, Chambersburg PA., January 5th 1864, In large part " I have the honor to inform you that I have this day paid the reward of thirty dollars for the apprehension and delivery of Robert Fry a deserter from your Company. You will therefore stop that amount from his pay ...."Robert Fry enlisted on 8/18/1862 as a Private into "E" Co. MD 7th Infantry. He was wounded 6/3/1864 Cold Harbor, VA (Severe wound in right forearm) and discharged for wounds on 5/16/1865.
