John Rodgers (1812-1882) was an admiral in the United States Navy. He began his naval career as a commander in the American Civil War. John Rodgers was promoted to captain July 16, 1862 and took command of the ironclad monitor Weehawken. After successfully navigating her from Brooklyn to Charleston through the same storm that sank the USS Monitor, he distinguished himself during the attack on Fort Sumter in May 1863, and in capturing the Confederate ram Atlanta on June 17, 1863.George Hamilton Perkins (1836-1899) was an officer in the United States Navy during the American Civil War. His service on the Mississippi and in the Gulf of Mexico continued in 1863-1865, including command of gunboats New London and Sciota, and the monitor Chickasaw. While in the latter ship, his aggressive and effective conduct during the August 1864 Battle of Mobile Bay was a major factor in the capture of the Confederate ironclad Tennessee.Document Signed by both "John Rodgers" as Commandant and G(eorge) H(amilton) as Lt. Commander. The manuscript document, datelined Ordinance Office, Navy Yard, Boston, August 3, 1869. Perkins forwards invoices for 100 barrels of cannon powder to Commandant J.A. Winslow which is forwarded to Rodgers Fine.
