William Drayton Sr. (1732-1790) was chief justice of the British American Province of East Florida and a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina. Drayton received a recess appointment from President George Washington on November 18, 1789, to the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina.Autograph Letter Signed, W(illia)m Drayton to Elias Bowdin, Charleston South Carolina, March 14, 1786, 1pp. In full, "I am afraid a letter which I did myself the honor to address to you some months ago has not reached your hands. It was to inform you by Direction of the South Carolina Society for promoting & improving agriculture, that you were unanimously elected an honorary member thereof. I do myself the pleasure of repeating this notice & of sending to a copy or two of an address & Rules of the Society, published by their order."Organized in Charleston, South Carolina as the South-Carolina Society for Promoting and Improving Agricultural, and Other Rural Concerns, the society was incorporated in 1795 as the Agricultural Society of South Carolina.
