There was a man by the name of Strother said to Dr. Overton Monday that all the Union men in town ought to shot ... the secessionists feel so outraged at the troops having been sent here ..don't know whether they will succeed or not but hope they will ... John Moss says when we begin to fight he will begin with neighbors. ... the soldiers picked up our wagon & horses to take them to the river, they had all the teams about the town ... I told them our wagon was weak, our team very poor not fit to go ..."
