Printed Newspaper, "The Libby Chronicle" 6pp., 6" x 9-1/2", separated at the spine with manuscript "This was presented to Mr. J. D. Stein by Chaplain McKabe after the war" . In its Prospectus we read, "THE LIBBY CHRONICLE will be issued weekly from Prisoner & Co.'s steam press of thought. Such will be the equalization of labor among those engaged in this enterprise, that our publication can be afforded at very low rates. Price of subscription weekly, one moment's good attention, invariably in advance. These terms complied with, the news will be forwarded postage free. ..." A few barbs are noticed, such as "In what respect do the officers confined in Libby resemble lost Dives in the parable? Answer. They are looking to Abraham (Lincoln) for comfort. We are unable to find either the manuscript version nor the printed version (c1880?)."Seven numbers of The Libby Chronicle were issued or read from manuscript as prepared by the denizens of Libby Prison during the summer of 1863. All these manuscripts, now in the hands of Chaplain Louis N. Beaudry, editor-in-chief, are for the first time published in whole and in proper order. The paper was read by the editor every Friday morning, at 10 o'clock, in the upper east room, in the presence of an excited crowd. The war has produced nothing of more thrilling interest."
