Confederate soldier's 2pp letter on half sheet, written by John K. James of "C" Co. SC Hampton Legion Infantry. Written to his father, Camp Near Columbia, Sept. 16, 1863. In part, "I want to know if my wife and family are well. I want to know whether Brother James papers is there his discharge. .. I want my sister to come as soon as she can. ... I would like you to fetch me a box of beans ... I want wife to send me a lock of my babys hair ...."
