An affectionate Southern home front letter, 2pp. 4to. written by Annie Rouse, Goldsboro, N. C., Dec. 1, 1863 to her soldier husband, Pvt. William Rouse, Co. A, 62nd Georgia Partisan Rangers Cavalry, concerning the advance of Union forces towards Goldsboro, N. C., reading, in part: "- I had the blues all day Sunday because I had not heard from the precious object of my heart's true affection but Oh! - when they were handed to me. My heart leaped for joy - the anxiety that had gathered in my breast seemed to die away and I fleet as if my husband was still my own true friend - well my dearest one, I have just turned over the inkstand and now haven't I got a nice letter to sent to my precious one - Bro. John is gone to Conference - the Yankees were coming up again. All the militia were called out - of seven counties. I am going to pack up and leave if they advance anymore. I expect they will take Goldsboro this winter but if they do they will not take me - if the Yankees do advance soon I shall go right to Salisbury if my baby says so - I am so glad to hear that my darling had had no more chills, so the brandy did my baby good once, didn't it darling. I want my darling to use it that way. I think it does good - yours as ever, Annie." The original stamped transmittal cover, addressed: "Mr. William Rose., Care Capt. R. P. Howell, 62nd Ga. Regt. Franklin Depot, Va.," postmarked "Goldsborough, N. C. Dec. 2", [1863], is included. Expected condition and wear, else VG.
