Alexander Robert Lawton (1818-1896) was a lawyer, politician, diplomat, and brigadier general in the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War. Autograph Letter Signed "A.R.Lawton", 1pp., April 30th, 1864. In part, "Copy of an order endorsed on application made by the Lt. Col. Snowden to the Secretary of War to reimburse himself and officers acting under his order from Lt. Gen. Longstreet to collect Absentees and Deserters. ... the Quarter Master at Atlanta will pay the necessary expenses already incurred by the Officers engaged in the duty within referred to ... Officers certificate to the correctness of the charge will be the evidence ... Officers feeding and housing horses, ferriage, tolls and such public charges as are usually paid through the Quarter Master's Department".
