Reminiscent 2pp. letter written by Albert T. Jones, who enlisted on 9/1/1864 as a Private into "C" Co. PA 9th Cavalry . Dateline Hazelton Penna, May 11, 1926 to John Boas. In part, " ... I am pleased to give you the information ... I was engaged in Nelson's raid through Alabama and Georgia - the greatest cavalry raid in the history of the world. Nelson's extraordinary achievements were entirely lost sight of on account on account of the termination of the war. It has been said that if the raid occurred earlier it would have been considered one of the wonders of the world. ... This wonderful raid ended with the capture of President Davis and his Cabinet near Irwinville Ga., May 10, 1864. A detachment of the 4th Mich. Cav captured Davis, but portio90ns of the 1st Wisconsin and the 7th Penna were also hard on the rebel trail. These three detachments moved in the same direction toward the distinguished officers of the Southern Confederacy, but the 4th Michigan boys were the lucky ones. I saw Davis about three hours after his capture. When I was at Washington DC a few days , I did not see Lincoln. When I enlisted I was 16 years old. .."
