Ebenezer Gray (1743-1795) joined the arms as a second lieutenant in the Third Connecticut Regiment during the Revolutionary War. He was promoted on January 1, 1776 to first lieutenant and regimental quartermaster in the 20th Continental Regiment. He served in Parson's brigade and the 6th Connecticut Regiment until his promotion to lieutenant colonel in October 1778. He held this commission until 1783.
