The 2-page pencil letter is written by "L(ewis) A(lfred) Wardlaw who enlisted as a 1st Sergeant (date unknown) and also had service in B" Co. SC 1st Orr's Rifles Infantry. He is list on the CSA Roll of Honor for Battle of Chancellorsville, VA. (At the battle of Chancellorsville. May 3, 1863, he was shot through the temples while gallantly attempting to plant the flag in advance of the line.)
