A confederate soldier's one page letter written and signed by "G(eorge) F. Walker" who enlisted on 2/6/1862 at New Hanover County, NC as a Captain, and was commissioned into "A" Co. NC 51st Infantry , 4/19/1862. He was Arrested 7/8/1862 (place not stated), Court-martialed 9/16/1862 (place not stated) and returned 11/1/1862 (place not stated). Walker resigned on 5/20/1863. Datelined Leesburg VA. Dec. 3, 1862, to Major McLaughlin. In part, I am gratified to learn .. that I was acquitted of charges against me. I have been waiting here more than two weeks to receive the glad news. You will immediately on receipt of this letter the result of my case. ... I shall always remember you Major with kindness and esteem ...."
