A great war-date battle of Shiloh and siege of Corinth letter, 4pp. 8vo., written on "Not A Star Must Fall" patriotic stationery by Pvt. Jesse Kendell, Co. G, 11th Iowa Vols. [POW battle of Atlanta, GA, 7/22/64], Pittsburg Landing, TN, May 6, 1862, to his brother, Edward, reading, in part: "- I am coming home as soon as I get a discharge. I have been in one of the hardest battles that ever was fought in America and that was at Pittsburg Landing, Tennessee. The fight commenced Sunday the 6 of April and ended Monday about four o'clock in the evening. I got through safe and sound without a scratch. We are now looking for another fight every day at a place called Corinth - it will be a hard fight. I wish it was over. Our forces is making preparations to attack the Rebels. They are hauling out siege guns. The roads is so bad that it takes 30 yoke of cattle to haul them. We will attack them in a few days and it will be a hard fight too - I cant give you any idea how soon the war will end - Jesse Kendell - Capt. McFarland, Company G, 11th Regiment Iowa Volunteers -". Written on robin's egg blue stationery. Near fine.
