Elmer Ellsworth patriotic stationery with caption beneath, reading, in full: "He who noteth even the fall of a sparrow will have some purpose even in the fate of one line me. Ellsworth," written by Pvt. Wilbur Peck, Battery A, 1st Ohio Light Artillery, "Camp near Nashville, Tenn., Dec. 17, 1862," to his "friend Ike," in part: "- it is with pleasure that I sit down flat on my ass to write you a few lines - I have watched for you to write till I made up my mind that you never was going to so I thought I would write - to make you mad - tell me all about the girls and how old Bob Smith feals - by god. Ike, he may to hell and his girls to[o] for all I care. It is not very likely that I ever shall go back to trouble them. I herd that father had bought a new farm and give the old one to Wilson. By god, Ike he will nead more room than that for his children - I suppose that Wils lives happy now. Wils is not thare to bother him and I don't think I ever shall be either. I don't kno that I have eny thing to come back for. If I ever get out of this I shall go to work on a boat on the Ohio river - you old friend, Wilbur Peck to Isaac Harmon -Sec[ond] Division, 6 Brig., [Charles S.] Cotter's Battery. Go to hell, Ike."
