Union soldier's letter, 3pp. 8vo., written by Private William Hiltner, Co. F, 82nd Penn. Vols., "Fortifications near Petersburg, Va., June 20, 1864, to his father reading, in part: "- I received a slight wound on the 17th [of June] in a charge on the enemies works but I am still able for duty - I send - giving you the power to collect - the bounty due me - we are fighting continually but - we will soon capture Richmond. We are twenty five miles below it - about two miles from Petersburg. We can see the town plainly - your son, L. W[illiam] Hiltner. Martin has a catarrh on his hand and is off duty." Included is the original stamped transmittal cover. Overall very good
