Northern war-date letter, 3pp. 8vo., written by William B. Butler, Mount Holly Springs, [Pa.], Jan. 29, 1864, in part: "- my stepbrother Charles Ellsworth came to see us yesterday from Chambersburg - he was in the 21st Pa. Cavalry. His term is up and as soon as the regiment is mustered out - he will go to his home - he is not going to reenlist - my friends have been pretty well represented in the army, 1 brother, 1 stepbrother, 1 brother-in-law and several nephews. One of my nephews killed in the battle of Pittsburg Landing. I have a brother, a colonel, in the Rebel army, His name is Robert Vinton Butler. I have not seen him in 9 years. He lives in Louisville, Kentucky - Wm. B. Butler." Overall VG.
