War-date Union non commissioned officer's letter, on naval battle scene patriotic stationery, 4pp. 8vo., written by Corporal Andrew H. Wallace, Co. D, 78th Ohio Vols., [KIA battle of Atlanta, Ga., July 22, 1864, buried Marietta National Cemetery] Crumps' Landing, Hardin Co., Tenn., March 30, 1862, to his friend, Sallie, reading, in part: "- it is with sorrow and regret that I inform you of the death of our friends, Andrew Dixon and William Kenny. Andw. died on Tuesday the 25th at the hospital at Savannah - and Kennedy died on the 28th at the same place. There is a great deal of sickness here. It has been caused by the change of climate but there has not many died of this Regt. yet. There has not more than ten or twelve died yet - Well Sallie, we are encamped on the Tennessee river four miles above Savannah. It is a very nice place here and - we are going to move tomorrow - we will go to - Corinth - I must tell you about the show that I saw - it was a live women - I believe the biggest one that I ever saw - it was a whet one that was the beauty of the animal. Well Sallie, tell all the girls that I send my best - I want them to write to me and that I will answer and tell them if they will come over some Saturday evening that they can have my company if they desire it - your friend, A.
