The 3-page manuscript poems, both pencil and pen, the 1st 2pp. are titled "Marching Through Georgia". In part, "Bring the good old bugle boys, we'll sing another song. Sing it like we used to sing, fifty thousand strong. How the Darkies shouted when they heard the joyful sound . When they saw the honored flag, they had not seen for years ...." Then on the third page, "Handful of Turf". In part, "It's sailing I am at the dawn of the day, To my brother that's over the sea. But a treasure I'll take for ould Ireland's sake It's a handful of turf from the land of my birth. ... And wont the poor lad in his excile be glad, When he sees the brave present I bring ......"
