Documentary Photo Aids was an educational supplier of reproduction photographs covering various periods of American history. Each professional photo has a printed caption describing the image. Additionally, when bought in topic groups, DPA would include a Teacher’s Guide providing the history of that period. These are 14” x 11”, c1960-1970. Unlikely they could be used in public schools today. A group of SEVEN Civil Rights images to include: The Ku Klux Klan pictured marching in full gala on Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington DC., 1926. This march displayed tens of thousands of Klansmen. Note the Capitol in the background. ... plus, The Black Panthers march in New York protesting the murder trial of Panther founder Huey P. Long, July 22, 1968. Newton was later convicted for the manslaughter of an Oakland policeman. ... plus, Protest marches started in 1955, Montgomery Alabama, protesting in response of Rosa Parks who was arrested for refusing to allow a white man to have her front bus seat. This image, shows National Guard troops lined Beale Street during a protest on March 29 , 1968. “ I AM A MAN,” placards are on the garbage collector strikers. ... plus, The sit-ins are shown in the 1962 Little Rock Woolworth’s as the Black students do their school work at the counter. The first counter sitin was Greensboro. 1960. ... plus, The water hose technique was used bby Birmingham’s Police Commissioner Eugene “Bull” Connor, a hardline segregationist, responded to quell the peaceful Negro protest. This image is July 23, 1964. ...plus, The protests were not restricted to the Southern States only. This photo shows the Glenville Shootout (in Cleveland) that led to riots from July 23-28, 1968. This event follows the election of Carl Stokes as Mayor of Cleveland, the first African-American mayor of a major US city. It resulted in a gun battle between the CLEVELAND POLICE and an armed black militant group called the Black Nationalists of New Libya, led by FRED "AHMED" EVANS. ... plus, This photo shows Negro marcher being carried into the Police Wagon, Geenville NC., February 12, 1969. They were marching to Raleigh to protest NC desegregation.
