Confederate soldier’s 1pp prison letter written by Ruben Beverly Boston who on 2/15/1862, he mustered into "F" Co. Virginia 3rd Light Artillery, On 4/28/1862, he transferred into "I" Co. Virginia 5th Cavalry, POW 6/17/1863 Aldie, VA. wounded 6/17/1863 Aldie, VA, exchanged 3/16/1864 Point Lookout, MD. POW 6/11/1864 Trevillian Station, VA (Escaped capture). Colonel R.B. Boston was Killed on 4/6/1865 at High Bridge, VA (At death heard shouting "Follow me boys!")Datelined Point Lookout, February 22nd 1864 written to Ms. Virginia J. Miller, Washington DC with original cover. In part, “Let me please as my apology the shaking of the vessel, a crowded room and a nervous hand, consequent upon continuous traveling for four or five days. ... Pardon me for saying I regard you and Miss Sallie as my best, and very nearly my only friends within the federal lines. ... We occupy pro tem the hospital buildings which are neat and comfortable. The officials are considerate and obliging and across the bay some eight or ten miles distant I see the borders on my beloved old mother state. ... Lieut. Bryan is I believe the only one of your friends from the Island who cane over with me. He is quite well. You see I have chosen for my one page a sheet closely ruled, Remember you need not so restaint yourself in your answer. R.B. Boston”
