Song Sheet, 4-1/2” x 8”, “AN ADDRESS, by the ladies of Little Eggharbor, TO THE IRICK INFANTRY, of Little Eggharbor” written by Leah Blackman, published by Johnson, Philadelphia, June 1861. In small part, “Who’s braver than Eggharbormen, or fitter to aid in the plan ... Who have boldly resolved to face, Jefferson Davies’s traitor crew, And fight for the red white and blue ......” Francis Bierwirth, the first elected mayor of Egg Harbor, New Jersey, was killed in the Battle of Antietam during the Civil War. He left his position as mayor in 1861 to fight in the war and was killed on September 17, 1862. Blackman wrote “History of Little Egg Harbor Township” in 1880.
