Union soldier’s 4pp letter written on “Union & Liberty patriotic” by Samuel Thoman who on 9/2/1861, he mustered into "D" Co. Pennsylvania 46th Infantry. Thoman was Killed on 5/25/1862 at Winchester, VA. Datelined: Camp Mattews, Jan. 4th, ‘62, in part “We was going to put up a log cabin ..it commenced snowing .. we live very comfortably .. got a small fire place ... I think we get paid next week and then I will try and send you some money. ... I will send you the money to come and stay awhile. ... you could see what a life that soldiers have ...”
