Union civilian (wife of Pvt James Pinley) 4pp. letter written on Father Abraham Patriotic by Phebe Pimley to her cousin. Datelined: Sunday Novemnber 28, 1862, in part “You said that a Soldiers life was a dogs life. James told me that he is no better than the rest of the men .. how I pity him and William and Maggy’s husband have gone with James. .. he knew that he should suffer, dear James. ... Oh how I do wish that the war would end but I am afraid before my Dear boys will be murdered but I am no better than the rest ...” Her husband Pvt. James Pinley, Co. F, 96th Illinois was KIA Chickamauga, Tenn. Sept. 20, 1863.
