Union soldier’s 4pp letter written on illustrated letter sheet showing a vivandere aiding a wounded soldier on the battlefield, with original cover and written by Samuel G. Pinkerton who on 8/22/1862 mustered into "F" Co. Pennsylvania 155th Infantry and was disch disability within 90 days on 11/14/1862. Datelined: Sept. 9th/62, Camp Near Fairfax, writing to his friend Clara in part, “Think of me as a true friend. I will think of you as a true friend. ... Cally I want you to change your mind towards me. Boyd loves you with all his soul. I want you to love him. He is worthy of you. ... Cally, this maybe the last letter that you ever get from me. Our regiment is in battle line and a fight is expected today or tomorrow and I expect to be the first to fall ....”
