Union officer’s 2pp Letter Signed “E.L. Kilgour” Tendering His Resignation, written by 2nd Lt. Ezekiel Kilgour, Co. I, 75th Illinois who on 9/2/1862, he was commissioned into "I" Co. Illinois 75th Infantry. He died of disease on 12/25/1862 only one week after this resignation. Datelined: Nashville Tenn. Dec. 17th, 1862, in part “I hereby respectfully tender my Resignation as 2nd Lieut. of Co. I, 75th Regiment, Ills. Vols on account of disability as set forth in Surgeon Certificate herewith enclosed ...” It is docketed by “Geo. Ryan, Col. Com. 75th Reg. Illinois”. Ryan was commissioned into Field & Staff Illinois 75th Infantry, 9/2/1862. He resigned on 12/20/1862, 3 days after he approved this resignation. On the verso is a 3 stanza poem entitled: "Reply to Lines To Our Whiteside Boy on The 75th" on the verso.
