Union soldier’s 4pp letter written by William G. Snodgrass who on 9/9/1861, mustered into "B" Co. Ohio 32nd Infantry. He was Mustered Out on 7/20/1865 at Louisville, KY. Datelined: Near Vicksburg, May 28th (‘63), in part “We left Milliken’s Bend the 25th of April ... we have had several fights with the rebs and have whipped them pretty decently every time ... We have only had one man wounded in our company ... In the rounds, we took 6,000 prisoners and about 70 pieces of artillery ... We have a lot more rebs penned up here in Vicksburg which we intend shall not get away ... The right of our line reach to the river above Vicksburg while the left reaches the river below. ... We have been fighting them here for more than a week .. Our skirmishes lay within 100 to 150 yards of their forts ... We undertook to storm their forts but did not make it pay. We got a good number of men killed in the attempt. ... I think the Southern Confederacy is playing out pretty fast. ... We came by one of Jeff Davis’s plantations the boys tore everything to pieces
