Union soldier’s 7pp letter, with original cover, written to his brother by Horace F. Folsom, who on 9/2/1862, mustered into "H" Co. New Hampshire 11th Infantry. He transferred out on 2/11/1864 at Pittsburgh, PA. On 2/11/1864, he transferred into "109th" Co. Veteran Reserve Corps 2nd Battn. He was Mustered Out on 9/1/1865 at Philadelphia, PA. Datelined; Pittsburgh Penn. Oct 1st, 1863, in part “...still sorry you are so afflicted. I hope you are in a good hospital with good surgeons and nurses. ... I have formed a very poor opinion of field hospitals, also of field surgeons. ... I began to grow sick and when we arrived at this place, I was hardly able to sit up. I got out of the cars and told Capt. Morgan that I was unable to go further. He told me to crawl in somewhere and in the morning report to the hospital. I did so. ... Should you regain your health sufficient for light duty and not for field service ... We will have God’s enemy to fight so long as we sojourn in Rebel lands ... yet we shall be enabled thereby to sing .. a more glorious song ‘Cry with a loud voice saying Salvation to our God which sittetth upon the throne...”
