Unsigned Union Soldier’s 4pp Letter, complete, datelined May 15, 1863, Murfreesboro, Tenn., with great negro content, in part: “...I believe we have the damdest and meanest Colonel that ever went in the Army. I don’t see why in the devil the boys in this regiment didn’t kill him when they was in the Great Battle of Stone’s River....He does hate the drafted men worse than I do the devil...I will relate a little circumstance that happened here a short time ago. A nigger he cooked for two messes in our Company ... he had a wife and the General sent all the niggers into Kentucky they give that infernal nigger transportation there and back if he chose to come back. He aint come back yet and I hope the rebs will get a hold of him and send him home...” VG.
