Charles Lawrence Thomas (February 12, 1843–February 24, 1923) was a United States Army soldier who received the Medal of Honor for heroism in September 1865 during the Powder River Expedition in Montana and Dakota Territory. Letter Signed “Chs. Thomas Bvt. Major General USA” 1pp., on Quartermaster General’s Office to Clerk for Printing Records. Datelined: Washington DC, February 13th, 1866. Thomas is upset about the error in printing his rank, in part “I notice that in the second Edition of the Congressional Directory ... I am reported asa Brvt. Brigadier General ... My rank is Brvt. Major General and I request to be informed why I have been reported incorrectly ...” The letter is fine and tipped to large album sheet, old school style.
