Autograph Letter Signed “Alfred de Claparède” as Swiss Minister to the United States, 1pp., written to the Commissioner of Pensions. Datelined Washington DC., November 23rd 1892, in small part “I have the honor to transmit to you an affidavit of Elizabeth Wenger, widow of Edward Wenger, Co.A, 1st Reg. Mo. Cavalry showing that said soldier did not serve in .. in the service of the United States subsequent to September 1st 1865 ...” It has been said of this regiment that "The enemy never saw the buttons on the back of their coats, and many bands of guerrillas and professional bushwhackers, as well as organized bodies of rebels, had occasion to remember the 1st Mo."
